Universitas Indonesia (UI) melalui Direktorat Pengabdian dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (DPPM UI) berkolaborasi dengan Warga Komodo dan Taman Nasional Komodo menyelenggarakan Komodo Culture Festival 2023 di Desa Komodo, Pulau Komodo, Nusa Tenggara Timur.
Komodo Culture Festival merupakan program besutan para Dosen UI yaitu Widhyasmaramurti, Novika Stri Wrihatni dan Murni Widyastuti sebagai bagian pengabdian pada masyarakat.
Festival budaya ini secara resmi dibuka oleh Agung Waluyo, selaku Direktur DPPM UI, Kepala Desa Komodo, H. Aksan dan Ketua Adat Suku Modo.
Widhyasmaramurti kepada wartawan mengatakan, rangkaian Komodo Culture Festival terdiri atas pertunjukan tarian, musik dan permainan tradisional dari warga setempat.
Sebagai puncak upacara, digelar “Makan Berbagi” sebagai bagian dari upacara adat yang muncul dari Legenda Desa Komodo. Komodo Culture Festival juga dihadiri oleh Hendrikus Rani Siga, S.Hut. M.Sc. (Kepala Balai Taman Nasional Komodo), Idwan Suhardi, (Dosen UI) dan Bambang Shergi Laksmono (Guru Besar FISIP UI) yang memberikan dukungan terhadap proses pelestarian Pengabdian pada Masyarakat di Desa Komodo ini.
Pagelaran tersebut juga dihadiri setidaknya 200 orang turis baik lokal maupun mancanegara diantaranya dari Perancis, Jerman dan Thailand.
“Kami para dosen UI berkolaborasi dengan Warga Komodo pembangunan kepariwisataan di Desa Komodo. Untuk mempromosikan desa pariwisata itu, digelarlah “Komodo Culture Festival” sebagai upaya UI untuk melestarikan tradisi di Ata Modo atau ‘orang Pulau Komodo,”katanya.
Hal itu dilakukan agar generasi mendatang dapat memahami dan menghargai asal-usul mereka dan memiliki kebanggaan akan budaya dan komunitasnya. Dalam melaksanakan pendampingan program Komodo Culture Festival, UI juga berusaha melakukan penguatan komunitas masyarakat di Desa Komodo.
UI berharap melalui Komodo Culture Festival, Desa Komodo dapat menjadi destinasi wisata budaya prioritas di Kawasan Taman Nasional Komodo.
“Kami berupaya melestarikan budaya Orang Pulau Komodo agar dapat mempertahankan akar sejarah dan pewarisan ilmu pengetahuan bagi generasi muda,” jelasnya.
Selain itu, menangkap kekhawatiran dari Kepala Balai Taman Nasional Komodo juga mengenai kemandirian masyarakat di masa depan. Jika masyarakat secara mandiri telah mampu mengemas kegiatan untuk setiap tahunnya dengan pendanaan yang ada, baik yang bersifat swadaya masyarakat maupun partisipasi mitra desa, sehingga Komodo Culture Festival akan dapat terus terselenggara, dan proses transmisi kebudayaan dapat terus berjalan.
Ketua Suku Adat Modo, Magu menyampaikan, bahwa kegiatan Komodo Culture Festival merupakan upaya dari masyarakat adat Suku Modo untuk mewariskan ilmu pengetahuan, tradisi, dan budaya yang mereka miliki dan percayai selama ini.
Suku Modo percaya bahwa mereka dan hewan komodo dapat hidup saling selaras dan harmonis dengan alam karena mereka bersaudara. Kepercayaan ini tanpa disadari sudah terinternalisasi dalam kehidupan warga Pulau Komodo yang dikenal sebagai Ata Modo atau ‘orang Pulau Komodo’.
