Wafid mengungkapkan, upaya pengendalian air tanah harus dilakukan, sehingga memungkinkan terjadinya proses pemulihan muka air tanah dan pelandaian laju penurunan muka tanah. “Kedua hal tersebut merupakan indikasi keberhasilan pengelolaan air tanah,” ujar Wafid.
Ia mencontohkan, pada Cekungan Air Tanah Jakarta telah dilakukan upaya pemantauan air tanah dan penurunan tanah sejak tahun 2014 melalui pendirian Balai Konservasi Air Tanah (BKAT), yang merupakan UPT di bawah Pusat Air Tanah dan Geologi Tata Lingkungan, Badan Geologi, Kementerian ESDM.
Pemantauan air tanah dilakukan pada 220 lokasi tiap tahun baik pada sumur pantau, sumur produksi, maupun sumur gali, berupa kegiatan pengukuran muka air tanah dan analisis sifat fisika-kimia air tanah. Salah satu tujuan kegiatan pemantauan air tanah adalah untuk evaluasi pengendalian pengambilan air tanah sebagai bagian dalam pemberian izin pengusahaan air tanah yang dituangkan dalam bentuk Peta Zona Konservasi Air Tanah.
Wafid menuturkan, pengukuran selama periode tahun 2015-2022 di wilayah Cekungan Air Tanah Jakarta tersebut menunjukkan laju penurunan tanah antara 0,04 hingga 6,30 cm per tahun.
