Mentawai – Presiden Joko Widodo meresmikan Bandar Udara Mentawai di Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai, Provinsi Sumatra Barat, Rabu (25/10/2023). Dalam sambutannya, Presiden Joko Widodo berharap kehadiran bandara tersebut akan mempermudah mobilitas masyarakat dan meningkatkan potensi pariwisata.
“Saya harap dengan beroperasinya bandara ini mobilitas masyarakat akan makin mudah, potensi wisata di Kepulauan Mentawai juga bisa dikembangkan lebih baik lagi,” ujar Presiden.
Lebih khusus, Presiden berharap pariwisata selancar atau surfing akan makin berkembang dengan kehadiran Bandara Mentawai. Saat ini, Bandara Mentawai sudah bisa didarati oleh pesawat jenis ATR sehingga jumlah turis pun diharapkan terdongkrak naik.
“Kita harapkan wisata surfing akan makin berkembang, dan juga mungkin pesawat-pesawat dari luar negeri yang berkaitan dengan surfing nanti juga bisa langsung mendarat, baik di Padang maupun di Pulau Mentawai,” jelasnya.
Bandara Mentawai sendiri merupakan salah satu bandara terluar di Tanah Air. Bandara Mentawai akan menggantikan bandara yang sudah ada sebelumnya, yaitu Bandara Rokot Sipora yang panjang landas pacu atau runway-nya hanya 850 meter sehingga hanya bisa didarati oleh pesawat Cessna berkapasitas 12 orang.
“Sekarang dengan adanya bandara baru, panjang runway-nya 1.500 meter, dengan lebar 30 meter, dan pesawat ATR sudah bisa mendarat di Pulau Mentawai saat ini,” ungkapnya.
Kepala Negara pun meyakini bahwa kehadiran Bandara Mentawai akan memberikan efek berganda bagi masyarakat karena akses yang makin terbuka. Presiden berharap usaha-usaha baru akan tumbuh yang pada akhirnya akan bermuara pada meningkatnya kesejahteraan masyarakat setempat.
“Saya yakin dengan makin terbukanya akses suatu daerah, konektivitas yang makin baik, masyarakat akan mendapatkan multiplier effect yang besar dan kesempatan untuk mengembangkan usaha-usaha barunya, dan ini yang kita harapkan bisa meningkatkan kesejahteraan kita semuanya,” tandasnya.
Turut mendampingi Presiden dalam acara peresmian tersebut yaitu Menteri Perhubungan Budi Karya Sumadi, Kepala Staf Kepresidenan Moeldoko, Gubernur Sumatra Barat Mahyeldi Ansharullah, dan Pj. Bupati Kepulauan Mentawai Fernando Jongguran Simanjuntak.
