Surabaya – Tak hanya nikmat dimakan sebagai camilan, manfaat edamame juga tidaklah sedikit. Berkat kandungan nutrisinya yang beragam, edamame baik dikonsumsi untuk kesehatan, mulai dari menyehatkan saluran cerna, menjaga berat badan ideal, hingga menurunkan risiko terjadinya penyakit jantung.

Edamame sebenarnya adalah kacang kedelai. Perbedaanya dengan kacang kedelai adalah edamame dipanen saat masih muda dan berwarna hijau. Edamame juga sering dijual dalam bentuk utuh dengan polong atau kulitnya, sedangkan kacang kedelai tidak.

Ragam manfaat yang ditawarkan edamame tentu tak lepas dari kandungan nutrisi yang ada di dalamnya. dr. Sienny Agustin dari Alo Dokter mengungkapkan bahwa di dalam 100 gram edamame terkandung sekitar 121 kalori dan beberapa nutrisi berikut antara lain 12 gr protein,9 gr karbohidrat, 5 gr Serat, 5 mg zat besi, 64 mg magnesium, 63 mg kalsium dan 5 mg zinc.

“Selain itu, edamame juga mengandung vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, dan antioksidan, seperti isoflavone, “ tuturnya. Ditambahkannya, kacang edamame juga dapat diolah terlebih dahulu atau dikombinasikan dengan sayuran lain untuk menjadi berbagai jenis makanan, seperti nasi goreng atau sup. Namun, tak jarang kedelai edamame juga dinikmati sebagai camilan dengan cara direbus atau dikukus. Anda juga dapat mengonsumsi kedelai edamame yang sudah diolah atau difermentasi, misalnya dalam bentuk tempe, tahu, saus, atau sup.

Keunggulan kacang kedelai yang sudah diolah adalah lebih mudah dicerna. Sementara itu, kacang kedelai yang telah difermentasi, mampu meningkatkan jumlah bakteri yang baik dalam pencernaan. ”Namun perlu diketahui, mengonsumsi kedelai edamame dapat membuat perut kembung dan mudah buang angin. Untuk menghindarinya, cobalah memasak kedelai edamame lebih lama, hingga benar-benar matang. Selain itu, Anda juga perlu berhati-hati karena edamame bisa menimbulkan reaksi alergi pada sebagian orang,” ibuh Sienny.

MENGURANGI RISIKO TIMBULNYA SEJUMLAH PENYAKIT Kedelai edamame mengandung isoflavon, yaitu suatu antioksidan yang bermanfaat dalam melindungi tubuh dari berbagai penyakit, seperti osteoporosis, kanker, hipertensi, dan penyakit jantung. Selain itu, kedelai edamame juga baik untuk menjaga kestabilan gula darah, sehingga baik untuk dikonsumsi oleh penderita diabetes.

3. MEREDAKAN GEJALA MENOPAUSE Kandungan antioksidan isoflavon dan fitoestrogen pada kedelai edamame juga bermanfaat untuk meredakan gejala hot flashes atau munculnya sensasi panas di sekitar wajah, leher, dan dada pada wanita di masa menopause.

4. MENYEHATKAN SALURAN PENCERNAAN Manfaat edamame lainnya adalah menjaga kesehatan saluran cerna. Suatu riset menunjukkan bahwa kandungan serat dan protein yang tinggi pada edamame akan berfungsi sebagai prebiotik yang dapat membantu pertumbuhan bakteri baik di dalam saluran cerna.
