Bupati Jember Hendy Siswanto menyebutkan, kegiatan itu dilakukan untuk menstimulasi stabilitas harga pangan yang saat ini masih cukup tinggi. Sekaligus untuk menjaga kestabilan pasokan pangan dan daya beli masyarakat.

“Jember menjadi salah satu yang dipilih oleh Bapanas sebagai daerah penyelenggara GPM. Tentunya hal itu akan menstimulasi stabilitas harga pangan di Jember,” terangnya.Dalam GPM, terdapat setidaknya 13 komoditas pokok yang mendapatkan subsidi harga dari Bapanas. Rata-rata subsidi yang didapatkan berkisar di Rp 2 ribu hingga 3 ribu per kilogram.

Salah satu contohnya adalah telur ayam yang dipatok dengan harga Rp 24 ribu per kilogram, atau lebih murah Rp 3 ribu dibandingkan harga pasaran.GPM menurut Bupati Hendy merupakan salah satu tugas pemerintah dalam memastikan terjaganya angka inflasi melalui pengendalian pasokan dan harga bahan pokok. Dia mengatakan, 13 komoditas yang mendapat subsidi pada kegiatan GPM mayoritas merupakan jenis pangan pokok yang belum mengalami penurunan harga yang signifikan di pasaran.
